Camp Rotary

The Feb. 25, 2019 guest speaker was Cain Harris representing Camp Rotary and Easter Seals NB. Cain’s name around Camp Rotary is “Finch.” He came to Camp Rotary back in 2011 as a pottery instructor but soon after became the camp director and has continued in that role ever since. He showed a lot of love and compassion for his job and stated that “Rotary has done wonders for Camp Rotary.”

Cain spoke of the magic that happens at camp and the emotional connections made. The cooks cater to various dietary needs.

There are special theme weeks for different age groups, such as MASH, or Golden Girls for the seniors, Easter Seals for children with physical disabilities, Camp Goodtime for children or young adults living with cancer (oncology nurse present for this week), and so on.

Camp Rotary caters to people of all ages with varying levels of physical, mental, or intellectual disabilities. They have a staff of 40+ and host around 60 campers per week. They have a 70-80% annual return rate for campers and a 45-60% return rate for camp counsellors. Many life long bonds are formed here. Easter Seals NB handles the administrative side of camp.

Proceeds donated to Camp Rotary by the Rotary Club of Sussex provide opportunities for individuals from Sussex that will be attending camp.
