Rhoda Wilson - Classification Talk

On Jan. 12, 2015, Rotarian Rhoda Wilson presented her classification talked entitled, 'Teachers, and What They Do'.

Rhoda began her career in administrative support in the Moncton Hospital. She worked in heart research at Mount Allison University, where she completed her Bachelor of Education degree, then completed her Masters of Education through the University of Phoenix.

She has been teaching since then at the Sussex Regional High School...

Rhoda shared the many rewards working with students, with the most significant being making a difference. Teaching brings many challenges as well: time, financial resources available, assessments, changing and challenging philosophies.

While there will always be a need even with the student population in a declining demographic, there is currently an oversupply of new teachers with many going overseas for opportunities. Most openings are in French immersion.

Teachers have been impacted by technology. Smartboards, the internet as the new library, online learning, messaging home and laptops all play a role.

The code of professional conduct provides the framework of the profession. The ideals of teaching are similar to the framework of the Rotary 4-Way Test

Rotarian Jeff Fuller thanked Rhoda for her interesting classification talk and presented Rhoda with a token of the Club's appreciation.
