Sussex Health Centre

On Jan. 7, 2019, our first meeting of the new year, Rotarian Christine Moffett introduced Monica Tays, Administrator of Sussex Health Centre. Monica graduated from the University of New Brunswick, Nursing program in 1991 and started her career at St. Joseph’s Hospital. She has worked in various departments during her career, several at SHS, including Emergency, Medical Intensive Care, Labour and Delivery, Family Medicine, and Emergency. Monica has been working as an administrator for the past three years...

Monica gave Rotarians a visual tour of the Sussex Health Centre, which is more of a hospital than a health centre. The tour included pictures and stories of the facilities, including the Country Mouse Gift Shop, where gifts can be purchased tax-free. Proceeds from the Gift Shop go to their Foundation and recently donated $50,000 toward the new ultrasound equipment.

The Sussex Health Centre has a full operating room, and several medical specialists come to Sussex to perform surgeries. A new anesthesiologist was hired, which sparked further improvement. There are many day programs, including the IV Day Department, Dialysis Unity and the Specialty Clinics, with 16 different specialties with 23 different doctors. Presently the facility has 25 beds plus two for overflow purposes, and currently, the Centre is at capacity.

Christine thanked Monica for her informative presentation.
